Dexter Axle: Servicing RV Axles and Electric Braking Systems
(Level 2 Refresher)

This session will provide an overview of leaf spring axles with electric brakes, theory and service techniques. The instructor will review the most common towable RV axle configurations. This course contains a combination of classroom theory and hands-on service training. The course curriculum is aimed for service technicians with up to five years of experience, but may also benefit RV service writers, parts professionals, etc.
CEUs will be awarded upon completion of a test administered at America’s Largest RV Show®.

RV Weight, Tires and Matching Tow Vehicles to Trailers & Truck Campers

Help your customers be safe on the road. Learn all the aspects of RV weight and balance, including the proper ways to weigh a vehicle, and the hazards associated with exceeding vehicle weight ratings.
Installing the proper tires on an RV is important for safety. The instructor will provide a firm foundation on tire fundamentals for proper weight and installation, including FMVSS and RVIA standards for tire application. He will explore unique situations for tires on RVs.
In addition, Selman will explain how to match the tow vehicle with travel trailers, fifth wheels and truck campers and explain the proper terminology. He will also provide resources for technicians to help determine the correct vehicle tow ratings and review weight and balance differences built into toy haulers/SURVs that differ from other towable RVs.

Learn about essential converter upgrades necessary for effectively charging Lithium batteries and gain a comprehensive understanding of hybrid inverters and how they seamlessly manage power sources. Finally, Mike will discuss the practicalities and considerations for charging electric vehicles at campgrounds, ensuring your customers are equipped with the knowledge to power all their adventures.

RV technicians work with electricity every day. In this class, we’ll review basic electricity, the DC and AC electrical systems in RVs, tools of the trade to include multimeters, electrical system testing and troubleshooting, and electrical safety. At the end of this seminar, the student will review basic and advanced electricity for RV technicians, including reviewing the NFPA/NEC 551, system testing and troubleshooting, best practices, and multimeter usage.

Students will perform the NFPA 1192 LPG system test on the PRVCA trailer or a test system if LPG is not allowed. After this seminar, the student will have reviewed LP Gas basics including propane and butane, LP gas safety, proper DOT cylinder inspections, ASME and DOT container appurtenances, proper testing of an LPG system on an RV, and review of NFPA 1192 LPG standards.
