“It’s more than just a towel,” says Meera Subramanya, founder of Haseru Life.
Launched in 2023, Haseru is a family startup, specializing in space-saving, eco-friendly towels.
Before that, Subramanya held a career in social work, which today inspires the business.
“My children were much younger when we started Haseru, and as a team we decided that it was important that it reflected what truly matters to us. Similar to a toothbrush or body soap, we see towels as a personal hygiene item, one that many people may not have access to call their own,” she says.
For every five towels purchased, the company donates one to nonprofit organizations supporting women and children. On a quarterly basis, they provide donations to safe havens, shelters, and nonprofit organizations that assist families working to get back on their feet.
Since its initial launch, Haseru Life has donated 1,117 towels — including a recent donation of 300 towels to Camp Homeward Bound, a one-week sleepaway camp for children experiencing homelessness from New York City. This summer, every child attending Camp Homeward Bound will receive a Haseru towel to use during camp and take home afterward.
The company also plans to expand outreach efforts to include veteran service organizations.
“Whenever I drop off donations I become emotional, especially when I stop at the safe haven for women and children,” Subramanya says. “Many family members share the same bath towel … This is why I do it.”
